In Spring of 2005, Bamboo Craftsman Company received a commission from the Nike Foundation to build a full-size replica of a Bangladeshi schoolhouse. The schoolhouse was erected at Nike's Beaverton campus to publicize the Nike Foundation's focus on providing grants to help adolescent girls in the developing world achieve their potential. One of the Foundation's initial projects is a $600,000 grant to the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee to help provide learning centers in 1,500 rural communities.

The schoolhouse was erected using a framework of thick-walled bamboo poles, with a cladding of corrugated sheet metal, consistent with local Bangladeshi construction practices. The rough-hewn building contrasted with the sleek architecture of the Nike campus, and the construction process caused quite a stir among Nike employees.

When the Bamboo Craftsmen crew completed the schoolhouse installation, Nike Foundation President Maria Eitel toured the site and pronounced the likeness to an actual Bangladeshi schoolhouse "uncanny".
