Bamboo is a natural material with natural variations. Every pole is unique and will vary in color, diameter, and straightness. We do our best to offer the highest quality bamboo available; variations are a natural occurrence and not a product defect. We measure pole diameter from the base end, all poles will taper somewhat towards the top end and the amount varies from pole to pole. All measurements are approximate, industry standard averages. Ex: a pole sold as 4" diameter will measure between 3.5"- 4.5" at the base end.

All bamboo poles are subject to splitting and cracking. We do our best to ship bamboo poles that are not cracked, however bamboo can develop cracks during shipping or storage due to changes on weather and climate. We recommend that poles used for exterior projects be coated with a wood sealing product to reduce cracking and maintain appearance.

Due to a change in Fedex policy it is prohibitively expensive to ship 8 ft poles. All parcel shipments must be exactly 96” or under including packaging, parcels over 96” in length will incur an $90 oversize charge.

Please also review our FAQ which includes our shipping and refund policies before placing an order with us.

Tam Vong Poles

Tam Vong, also known as Iron Bamboo, is one of the strongest varieties of the bamboo family. Tam Vong, or Dendrocalmus Strictus, has an extremely thick cell wall, making for an almost solid cane which also reduces cracking and splitting. Tam Vong poles are extremely durable and are great for fencing and other outdoor projects. Because it’s strength, it can be used for load bearing applications.

Tre Gai, or Bambusa Stenostachya, is one of the world’s strongest bamboos with exceptionally thick cell walls. It has a scarred surface and rustic appearance and is perfect for exterior projects. Due to the thick cell walls and twisted grain (vs. a hollow cane bamboo like Moso which has straight grain), Tre Gai timbers can be used for load-bearing and structural applications and are crack and split resistant. Tre Gai timbers are great for building fences, pergolas, decks and porches, bed canopies and all sorts of other projects!

Tonkin Poles

Tonkin, or Pseudosasa Amabilis, is a variety of Chinese hollow cane bamboo also known as “Fishing Pole Bamboo.” Tonkin poles are extremely straight with non-prominent nodes. They have a medium thick cell wall that gives the cured pole flexibility. Tonkin culms do not taper very much while growing allowing for a consistent pole diameter throughout. Tonkin is great for decorative uses, plant staking, arrow making, model making, and more!

Moso Timbers

Moso or Phyllostachys edulis is a thin walled timber bamboo primarily used for decorative applications. The nodes between segments are thin and easy to knock out making Moso a good choice for crafting bamboo gutters or other applications that require unobstructed tubes or half-rounds. Moso has very straight grain, which makes the canes easy to split into sections. This also makes it more likely that Moso canes will naturally split over time. It is often used for flooring and is the most common bamboo used in the textile industry. Moso Timbers can be used for mostly decorative applications and is a gorgeous addition to any tiki bar.
