Tonkin or Pseudosasa amabilis is a variety of Chinese hollow cane bamboo also known as “Fishing Pole Bamboo.” Tonkin poles are extremely straight with non-prominent nodes. They have a medium thick cell wall that gives the cured pole flexibility. Tonkin culms do not taper very much while growing allowing for a consistent pole diameter throughout.
